Shelter to Service Program Application

Animals provide powerful therapeutic benefits for many people, but for people managing emotional or mental health conditions, they have added practical benefits and can significantly improve their quality of life.

Shelter to Service transforms shelter animals into emotional support animals, facility dogs and cats, and trained psychiatric service dogs for anyone with anxiety, severe depression, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and more. It also now offers free psychiatric service dog training for guardians and personal dogs who meet our program's eligibility requirements.

We're sorry, in order to apply for a facility animal from Joybound's Shelter to Service program, the applicant must be the individual expected to adopt, handle, and care for the facility animal.

Please submit at least 2 different documents containing applicant's name and physical address proving California residency.
Acceptable documents include:

Shelter to Service Code of Conduct

Overview

The Shelter to Service Code of Conduct was created to promote a welcoming, supportive, and respectful environment. It is expected that everyone participating adheres to these expectations. If not, Shelter to Service staff reserve the right to decline or excuse you from receiving services from the Shelter to Service program.

Program Expectations

Treat staff, volunteers, and fellow participants with respect.
Be courteous of everyone’s time.
- Communicate with staff in a consistent and timely manner.
- Come to all appointments prepared and on time.
- Shelter to Service staff will be reachable during respective working hours, and will respond to any messages within 24-48 hours.
Be willing and able to travel by car to Joybound’s campus to receive services.
The program is family-friendly, so be aware of your language, tone, volume, and gestures, especially if children are present.
No inappropriate comments or advances about age, gender, race, disability, religion, and/or sexual orientation.
Treat all Joybound property with respect.
No alcohol or drug use at any time except when alcohol is provided at certain events.
No weapons permitted on Joybound’s campus at any time.
