Shelter to Service Emotional Support Animal Application

Animals provide powerful therapeutic benefits for many people, but for people managing emotional or mental health conditions, they have added practical benefits and can significantly improve their quality of life.

Shelter to Service, formerly Pets and Vets, was launched in 2011 as a program providing free adoptions to U.S. military Veterans. Now including a variety of services, Joybound's flagship program transforms rescue animals into emotional support animals and offers a personalized matching experience. Additionally, emotional support dogs learn basic foundational skills prior to being matched with an applicant.

Please note: There will be a cost associated with adopting a personally matched emotional support cat. Upon application submission, our Participant Services Manager will follow up to gather additional information and provide pricing details.
Please note: There will be a cost associated with adopting a personally matched emotional support dog who has gone through foundational training prior to adoption. Upon application submission, our Participant Services Manager will follow up to gather additional information and provide pricing details.

Shelter to Service Code of Conduct

Overview

The Shelter to Service Code of Conduct was created to promote a welcoming, supportive, and respectful environment. It is expected that everyone participating adheres to these expectations. If not, Shelter to Service staff reserve the right to decline or excuse you from receiving services from the Shelter to Service program.

Program Expectations

  1. Treat staff, volunteers, and fellow participants with respect.
  2. Be courteous of everyone’s time.
    • Communicate with staff in a consistent and timely manner.
    • Come to all appointments prepared and on time.
    • Shelter to Service staff will be reachable during respective working hours, and will respond to any messages within 24-48 hours.
  3. Be willing and able to travel by car to Joybound’s campus to receive services.
  4. The program is family-friendly, so be aware of your language, tone, volume, and gestures, especially if children are present.
  5. No inappropriate comments or advances about age, gender, race, disability, religion, and/or sexual orientation.
  6. Treat all Joybound property with respect.
  7. No alcohol or drug use at any time except when alcohol is provided at certain events.
  8. No weapons permitted on Joybound’s campus at any time.
