Only 10 spots available!

Deadline to register: May 5

Theatre Exile has staged its fair share of violence over the years.  We all know that after the blood comes the scars. In Theatre Exile's upcoming world premiere of Sing the Body Electric, by Michael Hollinger, scars from violence and lighting strikes feature prominently in the history of three of the characters.  The show’s costume designer Robin Shane will walk you through the techniques she uses to create the scars you will see on stage.  Using combinations of liquid latex, cotton, spirit gum, fake blood and henna, you will spend three hours creating the illusion of disfiguring your body and will walk away with a very mean (looking) scar.

From theatre professionals who wish to add to their resumes to enthusiastic fans of Halloween, all skill levels are welcome to participate.  If you wish to attend the 8pm performance after the workshop, we will have an hour and half dinner break built in so you can visit a restaurant near the theater.

Note: we will be using liquid latex, but if you have a known allergy, we will use substitute materials.  We will also be looking at images of real wounds as research – so beware if you are squeamish!

Workshop Location: The Latvian Society, 531 N. 7th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123

$35 for the workshop or $65* for the workshop and May 12th, 8pm performance (these will be charged and acknowledged separately)

*an additional $3 service charge will be added on to each Sing the Body Electric ticket

About Sing the Body Electric: Jess is tanking in Physics, so her mom hires Lloyd to help her pass. But she’d rather study his son, the survivor of a lightning strike that killed his girlfriend a year ago, and tattooed his body with elegant scars. When Lloyd and Mom hit it off, these two broken families are bound ever closer, inexorably -- with explosive results. An intricate, atmospheric tale of love, sex, and the unseen forces that draw us together and drive us apart.
