DR. ANTHONY FUSARO

FOR INITIATED MEMBERS ONLY

Alumni Association / Dr. Anthony Fusaro Scholarship Program - multiple people can apply)

Which organization is sponsoring the PSK Alumni / Dr. Anthony Fusaro scholarship program?

The Phi Sigma Kappa Alumni Association of Northern Illinois University is offering academic scholarships in honor of Brother Dr. Anthony Fusaro. Dr. Fusaro, a distinguished member of our fraternity, served as the local chapter advisor, National Grand President, and National Foundation President, and holds key positions within Phi Sigma Kappa to this day. He also contributed significantly to the NIU community as a Political Science professor, department chairman, and associate provost. Dr. Fusaro currently resides in Lakeland, FL after his retirement.

Who is eligible to receive the PSK Alumni Association / Dr. Anthony Fusaro scholarships?

There are three types of scholarships available, namely the Academic Excellence Award and the Director's Performance Award. To be eligible for the Academic Excellence Awards, the following criteria must be met:

  • Must be an initiated member in good standing during the semester the award is earned.
  • Must have enrolled/completed at least 12 hours at NIU for the semester.
  • Must have lived inside the chapter house during the semester when the grades are evaluated.

To qualify for the Director's Performance Award, the following requirements apply:

  • Must be an initiated member in good standing
  • Must have enrolled/completed at least 12 hours at NIU for the semester.
  • REMOVED -- Must have lived inside the chapter house during the semester when the grades are evaluated.
  • REMOVED -- Must have received at least two consecutive Academic Excellence Awards (Note: Most Improved award recipients are not eligible if their semester grade is below the 3.0 threshold).
  • REMOVED -- The Director's Scholarship will be continuously granted as long as the member maintains the requirement of receiving an Academic Excellence Award consecutively. The cumulative amount will increase based on the number of consecutive semesters (e.g., two consecutive semesters = $50, three consecutive semesters = $100, four consecutive semesters = $150, etc.). This amount is in addition to the Academic Excellence Award (highest active GPA included).

Conditions under which a scholarship will not be awarded:

  • If the member is not up-to-date on their financial obligations to the Alumni Association and the Active Chapter, including OMEGA financial balances.
  • If the member fails to uphold the other two Cardinal Principles of Phi Sigma Kappa, namely, To Promote Brotherhood and To Develop Character, as determined by the Active Chapter and/or the Alumni Association.

Who makes the decision regarding the scholarships?

The PSK Alumni Scholarship Chairman, with the assistance of the Local Chapter Scholarship Chairman, compiles the scholarship awards, which are then submitted to the PSK Alumni Board of Directors for a final vote.

What are the scholarship amounts?

Academic Excellence Awards (for those who lived "in-house" during the award semester):

  • GPA Ranges & Amounts:
    • 4.00 = $500
    • 3.75 TO 3.99 = $400
    • 3.50 to 3.74 = $300
    • 3.25 to 3.49 = $200
    • 3.00 to 3.24 = $150

What are the requirements for scholarship recipients?

Academic performance is the primary criterion for selecting successful candidates. However, if a recipient has demonstrated behavior contrary to the values of the active chapter or the Alumni Organization, they will be disqualified from receiving the stipend. This includes instances of past debt and property damage. All final decisions are made by the Alumni Association. Any appeals should be made in writing to the Alumni Scholarship Chairman within the semester the award is given at Scholarship@pskaaniu.org
