Young Leader Award Description:
The American Chemical Society’s Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) sponsors 15 awards providing funding for ACS members who are less than 40 years of age to travel to and participate in the annual ACS Leadership Institute, which will be held in January. Additional information about the ACS Leadership Institute may be found at: https://tinyurl.com/yhc74ety. The award covers registration fees, transportation, lodging and meals. Fifteen award winners will be identified. An additional 15 Young Leader Award alternates will be invited to attend the ACS Leadership Institute, provided they or their employer will cover all costs. The goals of the Leadership Institute are to:
Ø Develop leadership skills that will be useful to members at work and in their volunteer roles
Ø Identify the value and benefits of being an ACS volunteer leader to leaders and their employers
Ø Acquire knowledge and share best practices through networking with other ACS leaders, governance and staff
Ø Have fun through engaging and interactive sessions throughout the conference
Eligibility
Ø Membership in the American Chemical Society at the time of application
Ø Less than 40 years of age at time of application deadline
Ø Both domestic and international applicants are encouraged to apply

Ø One letter of recommendation, from someone familiar with your leadership activities and leadership potential. The letter of recommendation may be emailed directly to info@ycc-acs.org. Please be sure to include FULL NAME OF APPLICANT and DATE. The applicant's name and letter of recommendation should be included in the email subject line.
Ø All application materials must be submitted by October 15th
Selection Criteria
The following criteria are used to select the winners:
Ø Leadership/volunteer experiences in ACS activities
Ø Leadership/volunteer experiences in other professional societies, organizations, universities
Ø Leadership in current position; potential for leadership position
Ø Past/ present mentoring experiences
Ø Academic achievements, awards, etc.
Ø Other (Presentations, invited talks, publications, meetings, professional development courses)
