APPLICATION ENTRY DEADLINE – May 1st
UW Professor Ron Kuhn and lifelong music advocate Les Parsons provided leadership to Wyoming Music Education throughout their professional lives. Ron Kuhn was an instructor, mentor, advisor, role model, performer, philosopher and friend. Les Parsons provided immeasurable assistance to music education in the State of Wyoming through his generosity, time, and commitment to music students and teachers.
PURPOSE – The purpose of the Kuhn/Parsons Memorial Scholarship is to provide a lasting memorial to Ron Kuhn and Les Parsons for their countless contributions to music education in the State of Wyoming. Financial aid will be provided to a Wyoming music student majoring in Music Education at the University of Wyoming, who is preparing to student teach.
Annual consideration of qualified applicants by the Executive Board of the Wyoming Music Educators Association is based upon the applicant’s submission of an official academic transcript, a recorded audition, a personal essay and two letters of recommendation.
ELIGIBILITY – Students may apply for the award no earlier than the spring semester prior to the year of their student teaching. The annual entry deadline is May 1st. The successful applicant will be notified in writing no later than June 15th, with the award being made by August 15th.
In the event that an applicant is deemed ineligible, the award will not be presented.
AWARD – The $1,000 scholarship will be made directly to the student, in the form of a one-time cash award. The award will be presented to the applicant following confirmation of the applicant’s student teaching assignment and prior to the start of their student teaching experience.
AUDITION RECORDING – The audition should be in Mp3 format. Recorded material should include at least two contrasting excerpts to demonstrate performance ability. Consideration will be given to all performance elements, including tone, technique, accuracy, musicianship and difficulty. Announce your name and instrument/voice part and excerpts to be performed.
