    6:30pm – 8:30pm              Welcome, Brief Introduction & Three Presentations                                                                     covering the Paleo to Pueblo Theme:

                                             Bruce Huckell will explore recent thinking regarding the                                                                 possibilities for the early peopling of the Americas.

                                             Bradley Vierra will develop current ideas concerning the
                                                  transition from hunter-gatherer to agricultural.
 
                                             Michael Bletzer will summarize recent findings on
                                                 the dissolution of the Salinas pueblos and the out                                                                     migration of the remnant populations.
 
                                            Wrap up and Preview of Scheduled Field Trips.

Sunday May 7th Field Trips


A signed waiver at the time of registration will be required for all field trips.

  • Rock art sites at Abo National Monument - These sites are not open to the public and require a Park Ranger escort. Bring water, lunch advised.
  • New Museum at Tijeras Pueblo - Behind the Sandia Ranger Station, Tijeras
  • Sevilleta excavation site, under Michael Bletzer’s direction. Bring water, lunch advised
  • Espantado, also known as Dripping Springs - Car pool (high clearance vehicles) Bring water, lunch advised.
You will be asked when you register your initial preference from these four choices.  This will give the planning committee a rough count for each of the trips and does not lock you into that choice.  Actual field trip signups will be on Saturday, May 6th.
